Judo which means “gentle way”, is a modern Japanese martial art and combat sport, that originated in Japan in the late nineteenth century. Its most prominent feature is its competitive element, where the goal is to either throw one’s opponent to the ground, immobilize or otherwise subdue one’s opponent with a grappling maneuver, or force an opponent to submit by joint locking the elbow or by applying a choke.
Judo is the most dominant martial art form for takedowns whether the techniques are used in Mixed Martial Arts, Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu, or grappling competitions.
At Academy of Martial Arts we believe in wrestling takedowns, but also understand they must be unified with other styles to elevate take down skill.
WHAT STUDENTS LEARN
Judo is practiced in a realistic style (Randori). During these free fighting sessions you will be taxed both mentally and physically.
